How to Start a Skincare Routine and Stick to It

Sticking to a simple, consistent skincare routine offers great results. A skincare routine is a great way of bettering yourself and your overall well-being. If you have been feeling like a grizzly bear recently lacking in motivation, you’re not alone.  After a strange and unusual couple of years, it’s definitely the right time to focus more on self care.

Do you really need a skincare routine?

A lot of men are quick to dismiss starting a skincare routine because they believe it requires a huge investment of both time and money, but this doesn't always have to be true. We know it isn't easy to add changes to your everyday routines, but we also see the importance of looking after your skin. After all, it is the largest organ in your body so it's worth looking after!

Here’s how to build a basic skincare routine:

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing is the first step of any good skincare routine. Essentially, this is just a fancy word for wash - it will help to get rid of any dirt and impurities that have built up throughout the day/night. Start your day with a gentle facial cleanse by rinsing your face with lukewarm water, and then gently dabbing it dry.

Step 2: Tone

Toning is usually the second step of a good skincare routine. This process helps to tighten the pores and remove any nasties that have been missed by the initial cleanse. The best toners are those that have been designed to absorb quickly, without that sticky after feeling!

Step 3: Exfoliate

Exfoliating is a super satisfying part of your skincare routine, and has lots of benefits for your skin. If you know about skincare, then you’ll know that this not only makes your skin more radiant and smooth, but it also helps other products such as moisturiser to absorb into the skin much more effectively.

This process is really important for clearing out any dead skin cells and nasties that are clogging your pores. This helps to give your skin a much smoother texture, and leaves your skin glowing. Using a good quality, natural exfoliating scrub is key to making sure this step is the most effective it can be.

Step 4: Moisturise

Arguably, this is the most important step of them all. After you've cleansed, toned and exfoliated, it’s time to lock in all those important ingredients with the right moisturiser for your skin type. Dry skin can become really sore and extremely uncomfortable, so moisturising daily is a great way to prevent this from happening.

Keeping your skin hydrated plays a huge role in the overall health of your skin and using a moisturiser that fits your skin type will help to improve your complexion. To get the most out of it, you should aim to moisturise your face every morning and every evening. And if you want to really go the extra mile, consider buying a moisturiser with SPF to protect your skin against the sun's rays (and remember - even when it isn't visibility sunny, the sun's rays will still be damaging your skin!)
